Let's start thinking late Feb - early March for a possible hog hunt. I will know more about when I can go after a trip to KC on Tuesday. Housefrau may have some medical problems to be dealt with. Once upon a time, I thought it would be great to hunt hogs with a .45-70 Ruger #1, and that first shot would have been awesome. Then I got to thinking about the second shot at close quarters and decided against it. ODF, if you don't have one, you might consider getting one of those elastic band shell holders that fits on your wrist so that your followup shots are readily available. A well placed shot from a .30-30 will certainly do the job.
Tigerhaze is checking on some private land to hunt up around El Dorado Springs....might be a plan coming together here.

No doubt.... the one down side to taking the T/C Contender to a hog hunt is that it's a single shot!! You need to have that 2nd shell RIGHT THERE or you better be looking to Image if that first shot don't do it. Image

I'm going to speak to the guy this weekend. I'll have a better idea if that is going to work out by then.

Ain't nothing but a thing to take one with a Bow OF. Well placed shot and he won't be on his feet for long. Carry a pistol as a backup. Killed many in Florida, no backup needed. CW ain't kidding about the big knife. I have heard of folks taking them with knifes, spears and such down in Florida. CW is right they do not see well. I was within 10 feet of a big red one, I don't think he even knew I was there. I was scouting and did not have a weapon of any sort.

2B - My primary goal in hunting is groceries. I'd prefer to get some ribs in the freezer first (firearm) and then take the bow out for some fun. Food...then fun. Hmmm, seems like I'm missing another "f" word in there...wonder what it could be. Image

2B - I'm harder on things AROUND my target than on my actual target. BornBad is a dirt shooter, but I primarily lean towards the hardwoods. Image Besides, I've seen Ole Yeller...

Wonder how fast a pig with an arrow in its butt can run?

Hellbender....if you're the one who shot the pig in the butt, you don't want to find out. Feral hogs are like Mongo....you kill one, you just make it mad.

I'll believe there are wild hogs when I can see one with my own eyes.
