October mushroom boom

Post by ahistory » October 14th, 2005, 11:33 pm

There are a bunch of edible mushrooms out there folks. Time to hit the woods.

In the first two weeks of October, I have found the following:

2 hen of the woods [Grifola frondosa]

2 lbs yellow chanterelles [Cantharellus cibarius]

1/2 lb of Indigo Milky [Lactarius indigo]

1 1/2 lbs smooth chanterelles (orange)[Cantharellus lateritius}

5 lbs of honey mushroom [Armillaria mellea]

1/2 lb Angel Wings [Pleurocybella porrigens]

and

2 lbs of Sweet Tooth [Hydnum umbilicatum]

I also saw a few chickens that were past their prime. Remember always be sure of what you eat and do a spore print. If you are not 100% cetain, when in throw it out.

I saw a bunch of oysters but they were 40 foot up a tree and I had forgot to pack an extension ladder on my hike.
