Doe down

Post by Limbshot » October 22nd, 2018, 10:15 am

My daughter couldn't hunt Saturday so I had a rare solo hunt this year and wouldn't ya know it, I saw deer. Saturday morning had a young 8 cruise through just checking things out. Had my daughter been with me, I am pretty confident I could have called that dude into range. Went out in the wind Saturday evening and at 6:15 had a buttonbuck and momma sneak in behind me. After they milled around on acorns for about 5 minutes behind a big cedar, momma finally stepped into the clear at 20 yards. Was fortunate to make a good shot. Went back to the house and got my Dad and youngest son so they could help with tracking. Pretty easy track and we found her.

Sunday evening my daughter sat with my Dad and they didn't see anything. My youngest and I sat a different spot and saw a doe who walked past us then bedded down for an hour. Then had a spike come in and bumped her out of her bed and chased her around. At last light we had a buck come in to 12 yards behind us, but he wasn't one I was interested in shooting, but all in all it was a good weekend.
